Kerala's history

Although legend declares that the land of Kerala was formed when Parsurama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, threw his mighty battle-axe into the Arabian Sea, the fertile land that emerged was not established as an Indian state until 1956, with the integration of three Malayalam-speaking areas, Malabar and the two former Princely States of Cochin and Travancore.

Itineraries

Day 01:

Cochin to Munnar:

After breakfast enjoy City tour of Cochin - Visit the Mattancherry Dutch Palace - (closed on Fridays and public holidays), which was built by the Portuguese in 1555 and renovated by the Dutch in 1663. Visit the Jewish Synagogue-(closed on all Saturdays and Jewish holidays) in Jew Town and Fort Cochin Area. There are a couple of streets of picture-postcard houses out of another age. Visit St. Francis Church - (closed for visitors on Sundays from 08.00 to 11.00 hrs) the oldest European Church in India. It has several antiquities including a wealth of records. See the Chinese Fishing Nets, along the tip of Fort Cochin unique to this part of Kerala and living symbols of a centuries-old Chinese influence on this coast. Later depart to Munnar by road. Arrive Munnar and transfer to hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 02:

Munnar Sightseeing:

After breakfast, go for a sightseeing tour of Munnar. Enjoy the serene views which Munnar offers owing to its famous tea plantations, and visit Eravikulam National Park to watch the rich flora and fauna of the region. (Eravikulam National Park is shut from 15 Jan to 15 Mar; during these dates Park visits cannot be done but all other sightseeing tours shall be provided as per the itinerary). In the afternoon, visit Mattupetty Lake and Dam and Echo Point, famous for its echo phenomenon. Time permitting; we will visit the Tea Museum (closed on Monday & Good Friday). Overnight at the hotel.

Day 03:

Munnar to Thekkady:

Today after breakfast depart for Thekkady by road. Arrive Thekkady and transfer to hotel. The town also houses one of world’s most fascinating natural wildlife sanctuaries. Lying at an altitude of 700-1900m above sea level, Periyar has a cool and comfortable climate. In the afternoon, proceed for the nearby activity camp. Enjoy an Elephant ride through a small spice plantation and witness Kalaripayattu – an ancient South Indian martial art and one of the oldest fighting systems in existence today. Visit the spice market at Kumily where you can buy fresh spices. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 04

Thekkady to Alleppey:

After breakfast checkout from the hotel and proceed to Alleppey an important backwater destination attracting thousands of tourists every year, who come all the way to enjoy Alleppey for what it offers. Referred to as the Venice of the East, the place is home to diverse animal and bird life. Alleppey is also famous for its beaches, marine products, coir industry and boat races. A singularity of this land is the region called KUTTANAD land of lush paddy fields referred to as the rice bowl ofKerala and one of the few places in the world where farming is done below sea level. Overnight stay is at Alleppey.

Day 05

Alleppey to Varkala:

Today after breakfast depart for Varkala by road. Arrive Varkala and transfer to hotel. Go for a sightseeing tour of Varkala. Visit to Varkala Beach, Varkala Aquarium, Odayam Beach, Kappil Beach, Edava Vettakkada Beach, Janardanaswamy Temple, Sivagiri mutt, Varkala cliff. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 06:

Varkala to Kovalam:

Today after breakfast depart for Kovalam by road. Arrive Kovalam and transfer to hotel. Go for a sightseeing tour of Kovalam. visit to Hawah Beach ,Samudra Beach, Sagarika Marine Research Aquarium, Guruprakash Ayurvedic Centre, Halcyon Castle, Vizhinjam Beach, Lighthouse Beach is the one most frequented by tourists. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 07/08:

Kovalam to kanyakumari:

Today after breakfast depart for Kanyakumari by road. Arrive Kanyakumari and transfer to hotel. Go for a sightseeing tour of Kanyakumari. Visit to Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Thiruvalluvar Statue, Mayapuri - Wonder Wax, Baywatch Park, Sunset Point Cape, Leepuram Beach, Aqua World - Fish Exhibition, View Tower, Overnight at the hotel.

Day 09

Back to Home:

After breakfast checkout from hotel and proceed for Airport/Railway Station to board the flights/Trains and go back to home with unforgettable memories.
